USB to Wifi

Main screen   -   USB to Wifi

USB to WifiThis connection profile shares your USB connection over Wifi. It should not be confused with the Wifi to USB connection profile. The important difference is, with the Wifi to USB connection profile, the internet feed comes in through wifi, and is sent to your computer over USB, while with this USB to Wifi connection profile the internet feed comes through your computer to your mobile device over USB, and is then shared over Wifi.

This USB to Wifi connection profile has the same requirements as the Cellular to USB connection profile.

This connection profile is usually used when a computer is available that has an internet connection but has no wifi network card, and you wish to provide internet to another wifi-enabled device.

This connection profile is also the most difficult to set up, as you need to make sure the computer shares its internet feed with your mobile device. The instructions for setting this up on a Windows XP machine are below, for Windows Vista the setup is similar.

Windows XP
You must enable Internet Sharing on your computer. The tricky part is, Windows actually uses
two different network card names for the same mobile device - one for Internet Sharing mode and one for ActiveSync mode.

The easiest way to set it up, is connecting WMWifiRouter in USB to Wifi mode, and wait until WMWifiRouter say it's ready. Now, go to Network Connections on your computer. Find your internet connection in the list, right-click on it and go to Properties. Once there, go to the Advanced tab and enable Internet Connection Sharing. If there is a select box below the the checkbox you use to enable Internet Connection Sharing, select the network called Windows Mobile-based Internet Sharing device.

Once you have done this, you will need to disconnect WMWifiRouter, and reconnect it in USB to Wifi mode. As long as you do not change these settings on your computers, you will not have to do this setup procedure next time you want to use the USB to Wifi connection profile, you can just immediately connect it.

Note that once you have set this up, you will not be able to use the Cellular to USB connection profile with the same computer. To re-enable the Cellular to USB connection profile, you will have to disable Internet Connection Sharing on your computer again.
