KB0802004: High power consumption and overheating

For most devices, you can press the power button (after you have connected the mobile device running WMWifiRouter with one or more other devices) to go into low power mode. This should disable most power consuming components of your device, while keeping your cellular data connection and wifi chip enabled. Also see the unattended mode configuration option in the documentation.

Your device can get fairly hot when it's fully powered and actively routing between your cellular data connection and wifi. This can be reduced by using the power button functionality mentioned above. If you also have the device connected to a charger, this will increase the temperature of your device even more, and it is not impossible that your device will overheat. When the latter happens, your device will shut down and will not boot again. Do not panic!

Virtually all recent mobile devices come with high quality batteries that have hardware to prevent overheating from damaging your device. This is often implemented using a chemical switch which cuts all power when it reaches a certain temperature. This switch resets after a set amount of time. Should this happen to you, we advise taking the battery out of the mobile device, putting it in an unheated spot, and waiting approximately twelve hours before putting it back in your mobile device and turning it on again.

We would like to point out that in three months and over one hundred thousand downloads of the software, this has only been reported to happen once, and the issue was indeed fixed by simply waiting twelve hours.  Many users have ran the software uninterrupted for many hours without any issue aside from the device feeling warm. A handful of users have even reported running the software for almost two months straight (as home internet replacement) without anything similar ever happening.
