KB0803016: Security and network name

We have received many questions about how to secure the network. You can modify the security settings and network name (SSID) under Options, Configuration, Network setup.

WMWifiRouter uses the "Open" authentication mode for both unsecured and WEP encrypted wifi networks. WPA is not supported on ad-hoc networks. Though theoretically WPA-None could be used, we have not been able to get this to work between the devices and computers we have tried this on.

Note that if you enter a passphrase, a key will be generated for you, except when you enter a 13 character phrase (which can be used directly). We have done this because many users do not know how WEP works and try to use encryption keys that are not valid.

For more information on the "Network setup" configuration option, see the documentation .

Also note that if you change security settings or network name, you may run into some trouble connecting your device with your computer again. See KB080215 for more information and the fix procedure.
